Welcome

Welcome!

You are invited to explore our caring faith community here at St. Luke’s on the Hill Episcopal Church. We hope you’ll find the information on our site helpful and that you’ll get a better feel for what God is doing in and through His people here.

St. Luke’s on the Hill is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We are grounded in the Bible and seek to live out a loving relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, through the Anglican tradition of worship, theology, and piety expressed in the Book of Common Prayer.

God’s grace is on full display during St. Luke’s on the Hill’s worship services. On Saturdays, we offer a Holy Eucharist service with renewal music at 4pm. On Sundays, we offer Holy Eucharist services at 8am (without music) and 10am (with hymns). The 10am service also offers Children’s Sunday School and nursery. Then, on Wednesdays, we offer a Healing Prayer Service with Communion and renewal music at 6pm.

St. Luke’s on the Hill has many spiritual growth and fellowship opportunities for people of all ages, from infants to seniors. For more information about our ministries, click here.

What to Expect

Guests are always welcome!

We can’t wait to meet you! In the meantime, here is some information about what you can expect on your first visit to St. Luke’s on the Hill Episcopal Church.

When are your services?

  • 4pm Saturday service offers a Rite 2 Mass with renewal music.

  • On the third Saturday of each month, a 12-step service is offered to encourage anyone in recovery.

  • 8am Sunday service offers a Rite 1 Mass without music.

  • 10am Sunday service offers a Rite 2 Mass with hymns and children’s ministry.

  • 6pm Wednesday service is a Healing Prayer Service with renewal music and personal prayer with anointing.

What should I wear?

You are welcome to wear what you are most comfortable wearing. Most people dress in casual dress clothes.

Where do I enter?

The double set of red doors under the awning leads into our sanctuary.

How long are the services?

We have one Saturday service, two Sunday services, and a Wednesday night healing prayer service. The 4pm Saturday service typically lasts an hour and fifteen minutes. The 8am Sunday service does not have music and lasts just a little over an hour. The second Sunday service is at 10am and does have music; it typically lasts 1 ½ hours.

What can I expect during worship?

The Episcopal Church is a liturgical church, which means that our service follows an established order with said prayers and actions together. The order of service includes singing, readings from the Bible, a sermon, prayers, and the celebration of Holy Communion. You will be given a bulletin to guide you through the pages of the prayer book and hymnal to worship with others. We all learn together.

Am I allowed to receive Communion?

Yes, if you are baptized, you are welcome to receive Communion. At St. Luke’s on the Hill, we use unleavened wafers and real wine in a common cup during the distribution of the elements. Gluten free bread is also available upon request. If you are not baptized or do not wish to receive Communion, please still feel free to come to the altar rail. You may cross your arms over your chest, and the priest will pray a blessing for you instead. We honor you wherever you are on your spiritual journey.

What accommodations do you have for children?

Children are always welcome at St. Luke’s on the Hill and are an important part of the church! Our Sunday 10am service has a nursery available for infants through 3-years old, and there is Sunday School for children ages 4 through 5th grade.

At all other service times, children are encouraged to take part in the prayers and responses. Baptized children are also welcome to receive Communion.

What are the books in the seat racks and when do I use them?

The red book is the Book of Common Prayer, which provides the service structure and content. The blue book is the hymnal, which contains the music for the service. The white binder contains the lyrics for contemporary songs used at the Saturday service and Wednesday Healing Prayer service.
