St. Luke's embraces it's commitment to those in need and the poor by contributing to the local food pantry, the
Mechanicville Area Community Center, the Samaritan's Purse/Operation Christmas Child program, the Winter Coat
program and providing for needy families at Christmas.
St. Luke's acts as a resource for a community-based asssitance; and in addition, the congregation supports an emergency discretionary fund administered by St. Luke's clergy.
Comfort For Those Who Mourn:
Comfort For Those Who mourn is a 6 week Christian support group which is offered from 4:30-6:00 on Wednesday afternoon with Eucharist and potluck dinner beginning at 6:00 for those who wish to stay. After the initial 6 week session, monthly meetings continue throughout the year.
T.G.I.S (Thank God Its Sunday):
TGIS(Thank God It Is Sunday) is a youth group offered at the JSMoore community room on Harris Ave in downtown Mechanicville from 5:00-7:00 on the 1st and 3d Sunday of each month for young people grades 4-12. Dinner is provided along with fun games and Bible study led by our Diocesan Youth Minister, John Iseman and his youth ministry interns.
St. Lukes in Ankilafaly, Madagascar:
St. Lukes on the Hill is partnering with St. Lukes in Ankilafaly, Madagascar by supporting them in prayer and providing funds for school back packs as well as funds to help build a woman's center where micro industries for women will be provided along with fellowship and Bible study opportunities. Our youth are invited to be pen pals with Malagasy children so that relationships of love, respect and understanding can be developed.
The Good News Club:
The Good News Club is a vacation Bible school which is offered to kids grades K-8 during Christmas, Winter, Spring, and Summer vacations downtown at the the JSMoore Community room.
A few of our other prominent outreach activities include:
Christmas for Seniors provides gift bags loaded with goodies which are delivered each year to over 50 senior citizens downtown.
Operation Christmas Child boxes are gathered for children throughout the world each Christmas. In 2013 we filled over 120 boxes which were sent to needy children in South America and Africa.
Christmas Giving Tree. St. Lukes decorates an Advent tree with ornaments listing gifts for children downtown. The gifts are gathered and are delivered to the Community Center where they are distributed.
Summer Food For Kids. St Lukes packs backpacks filled with food for kids during the summer who miss their free and lowered cost breakfasts and lunches provided by the schools throughout the school year.
Scholarships for children to attend the Diocesan summer camp "Beaver Cross", the "Good News" Club, the off-site worship services in Mechanicville and, to assist those commited to spreading the Word of God, we contribute to seminaries.
When natural disaster strikes anywhere in the world, St. Luke's parishioners respond generously (Indonesia, Haiti, Peru, Japan, as well as U.S floods, hurricanes and tornados) to help those in need. We also send boxes with various items to men and women in the armed forces serving overseas.
